When
it comes to adventure, how does your hometown stack
up?
Did it even make the list? Check it out
here:
THE TOP 10
 |
San
Francisco - Don’t leave your heart, get it pumping
in San Francisco - America’s most adventurous city. Nestled
between the Sierra Nevadas and the picture-perfect Pacific,
and with an entrepreneurial spirit second to none, the City
by the Bay never disappoints when it comes to adventure. Hiking,
biking, skiing, surfing, sailing await Bay Area residents and
visitors who are up for the challenge. |
 |
Boston
- : As the recent World Series pennant finally flies above the
Green Monster, Beantown can add “most adventurous city
on the East Coast” to list of bragging rights. Just about
everyone knows about Boston’s legendary marathon, but
only a true Z-man knows “The Gunks,” a rock climbing
mecca just 20 minutes up the pike from Beantown. With nearby
New Hampshire providing regular adrenaline fixes to skiers and
boarders, and Pats fanatics psyched for another Super Bowl season,
it’s clear that Bostonians know a thing or two about working
up a sweat. |
 |
San Diego
- The weather is about the only thing predictable about San
Diego, where it’s pretty much sunshine and highs in the
70s every day of the year. Throw in that forecast and mix it
up with a all kinds of biking, running, surfing, rafting and
even skiing possibilities, and it’s a no-brainer why this
paradise of sun and surf ranks as number three on the adventure
list. |
 |
Sacramento - We should all be so lucky to live in Sacramento. The oldest incorporated city in the Golden State is smack dab between the rugged Pacific Coast line and the breathtaking mountains of Lake Tahoe. A true gold standard for adventure, you’ll practically stumble upon adventure by merely walking outside. So wear a helmet. |
 |
Los Angeles - Tinseltown
may be full of posers, but when it comes to adventure, it’s
no act. With great surfing, rafting, mountains and tons of other
options nearby, LA ranks as one of the most “totally awesome”
adventure towns in America. |
 |
Denver - No excuses for not finding adventure here. With more than 300 days of sunshine every year and the Rocky Mountains in its backyard, Denver is the perfect locale for extreme, not-so-extreme and plain vanilla adventures. |
 |
Seattle
- Yes, it rains a helluva lot here. But that doesn't stop
Seattleites. So grab your venti mocha and your slicker and
get pumped for world-class hiking and skiing. |
 |
Portland - Sporting the
only rain forest in the continental U.S., Portland is probably
the greenest city on the survey. And green means “full
speed ahead” when it comes to adventure. With 37,000 acres
of parks, the Columbia River Gorge and Mount Hood within easy
reach, Portland does the Pacific Northwest proud when it comes
to adventure. |
 |
Charlotte
- This demure Southern belle of a city does not play coy
when it comes to adventure. There’s windsurfing on the
shore, rock gyms on every corner, bike races, marathons and
more triathlons than you can shake a stick at. And some tasty
BBQ, too – so make sure your taste buds are up for an
adventure. |
 |
Philadelphia
- Don't be fooled by its name…residents of the City
of Brotherly Love would rather sweat it out than
hug it out. And while deliciously greasy cheese steaks,
a big cracked bell and a bespeckled guy who flew a kite in
a lightning storm are its main claims to fame, there's no
denying that Philadelphia is also an adventure city worthy
of the top 10. Hardly a day goes by without some sort
of bike tour, marathon or triathlon taking place.
